Why
Because its better to be better
Our teaching and learning opportunities need inspiration. To flourish, the youthful ones need to be pushed and pulled into a quest for understanding that presents challenges at many diminensions. For educators, the challenge is the tempo of the everyday advances in technology. Fresh experiences are harder to deliver, more risky in presentation and buck status quo operations. A summit can give many fresh, modern perspectives to thousands of participants in one short period. Furthermore, the summit gives courage to make advances to the cutting-edge.
Louise Machinist, M.A., Licensed Clinical Psychologist writes in support of the YOUTH Technology Summit:
As a clinical child psychologist, I know that improved technological education, starting in the elementary / middle school years, is imperative for a lot of kids. We are creating our own burnouts, dropouts, learning disabilities, and
behavior problems by demoralizing kids who need educational options right for
them.
For the Future
The future of Pittsburgh, the future of Linux, and the future of our world, the future of our workforce, the future of (insert your favorite self interest here), to some degree, depends on the bright minds of tomorrow. The more very early exposure to open operating systems and other software that can be tinkered with, the better for everyone.
Plus, a Youth Technology Summit will keep 'em away from premarital sex and violent video games. If you believe that, we can find a bridge to sell you.
